Stanley Jordan Quartet

feat CHRISTIAN GALVEZ & THE THUNDER DUO

Stanley Jordan – guitars (USA)
Christian Galvez – bass (Chile)
Kornel Horvath – percussion (Hungary)
Gabor Dornyei – drums (Hungary)

The capacity to explore unusual music territories are the characteristics of their performance. A journey from Mozart and Miles into Mc Cartney and Mingus, a sound unique, sometimes transparent and ethereal, sometimes complex and telluric, en experience to be lived.

Versatility, Lyricism is the seal of these four great musicians.
Jordan, an eclectic musician who has pushed the “tapping” technique into a superior level reached only by himself. Galvez, Bass Guitar player that has brought his instrument into the widest  rhythmic and harmonic possible conception. Gabor Dornyei, his highly developed technique and advanced proficiency with multi-pedal patterns allow him to explore polyrhythmic, layered ethnic concepts with authenticity and passion. Kornel Horvath with a flury of his hands the armada of percussions surrounding him come to life, speaking the language of rhythm with tones that ranges from exotic to the earthy.

In a career that took flight in 1985 with commercial and critical acclaim, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a chameleonic musical persona of openness, imagination, versatility and maverick daring. Be it bold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits, to blazing straight ahead jazz forays and ultramodern improvisational works—solo or with a group—Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners on breathless journeys into the unexpected.
Jordan has received four Grammy nominations. His most recent album “Friends” was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Los Angeles Times jazz critic Leonard Feather wrote, “Genius is a word often tossed around in musical circles, but it has been rightfully applied to Stanley Jordan.”

At today Christian Galvez is for surethe best bass player in Latin America and makes part of the selected small group of the best bass virtuosos of the planet. He has recorded 13 albums and 3 DVD with Pez Records label, plus his Concert N. 1 for bass and symphony orchestra (the first concert for bass and orchestra in the world) that Christian already performed live together with the most prestigious orchestras in Chile, Bolivia, Panama at most important festivals of Latin America. His bass is not only a bass, but pretty much a guitar with bass strings … Galvez does everything a guitarist can do, but when it’s time to ‘be bass player‘ he plays all what a bass is able to play.“

“Christian Galvez is a bass virtuoso. His talent and abilities are very rare. Virtuosity is one thing, but Christian also has melody and the sensibility to know when to be a virtuoso and when to be a supportive bass player.
That is even more rare!
Frank Gambale

THUNDER Duo is a unique experience that combines diverse worlds of influence and directions of rhythmic pursuit, with Kornél and Gábor reinventing traditional styles from around the world as they seek out exciting new rhythms and grooves. At times the Duo stretches dangerously into the unknown. Then, with a stroke of brilliance, everything pulls together and the search is on for yet another head-spinning clave or funkily displaced groove. This sensational duo is all about music with meaning. Yes, it rages, it roars, and it pulses as it pulls you into a very different world, but tHUNder Duo matters most because Kornél and Gábor are devoted to excellence as well as excitement. They know the music and its meaning. Exciting. Daring. Human.
