Mariola Membrives is the voice and face of a new generation of artists that is giving a renewed and necessary impulse of search and personality in the Spanish music scene. After her debut album, “Llorona” (2014), a duet with the Japanese jazz double bass player Masa Kamaguchi, she toured the main festivals of the country with her “Omega 20.16” proposal and premiered her duo with Chano Domínguez at the Teatre Grec in Barcelona. It is the flamenco voice of the shows “FreeBach212” by La Fura dels Baus and “Federico García” by Pep Tosar. In 2018 she premiered “Sed libera nos a malo” with the Piccola Orchestra Gagarin at the “Ciutat Flamenco Festival” of Barcelona and her new proposal “La Enamorada” is presented at the Tanger, Tetuán, Madrid and Barcelona jazz festivals, and the “Intramuros festival de Jérez”, among others. In 2019 he published his new album in duet with the North American guitarist Marc Ribot, “Lorca, Spanish Songs” and also works on her theater-musical proposal “La reina Toro”. She has been awarded by the Junta de Andalucía for her artistic career with the ‘Córdoba a Escena’ award.
NEW ALBUM
“Lorca, Spanish Songs”, published by Karonte in March 2019 with the special collaboration of guitarist Marc Ribot, is considered one of the albums of the year by the critics and the specialized press. The base of the repertory are the popular songs that Lorca recorded on the piano with the voice of Argentinita turning into authentic classics titles such as “Anda jaleo”, “La Tarara”, “Los cuatro muleros” and “Zorongo gitano”, among others, to those who grant a renewed reading. For this, Mariola Membrives has created a powerful live band with some of the best exponents of rock, jazz and national flamenco: the electric guitars of Javier Pedreira (Luz Casal, Tomasito, Quique González …), Osvi Greco (Ariel Rot, Ana Belén …), the trombone of Vicent Pérez (Perico Sambeat, Voro García, David Pastor Chris Cheek …) and the percussion of David Dominguez (Chicuelo, Mayte Martín, Carles Dènia …). After her revealing “Llorona” a duet with the Japanese double bass player Masa Kamaguchi, her original review of Morente’s “Omega” for jazz and flamenco guitar quintet and her show “La enamorada”, with which she triumphed in the jazz festivals of Madrid and Barcelona, Mariola Membrives Guitar Band offers one of the most exciting and exciting live shows of the moment.
